Crowned as the "The Heart of Pine River Valley" this quaint town lies in the Southwestern region of Colorado, on Highway 160 between Durango and Pagosa Springs. Bayfield received its name when two families, the Bay family and the Schiller family, each donated land to create a supply town. When the coin toss was won by Mr. William Bay, the town was fittingly named Bayfield. It is said that if Mr. Schiller had won the toss, the town would have been named "Schillerville".
