Almont is a small unincorporated community in Gunnison County, located between Gunnison and Crested Butte. It was originally named Fishers after one of the first settlers in the area, but was renamed in 1881 to Almont, after a famous Kentucky racehorse. Formerly known for its ore mining, it has since become a resort type destination for those looking to enjoy year-round activities.
